Health Infrastructure Vulnerability

Health

Use Case Description

Healthcare infrastructure faces a wide range of threats, both natural and human-made. Natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and pandemics can severely impact health systems. Human-made disasters, including war, pollution, explosions (nuclear or otherwise), hazardous material exposures, transportation accidents, and pandemics, pose equally serious risks. These events can lead to mass displacement, disease outbreaks, and destruction of property.

The integration of Earth Observation (EO) data with health infrastructure information enables the identification of critical healthcare facilities at risk. It also allows for the assessment of their exposure to both natural and human-made hazards. This combined data supports decision-makers in implementing adaptive measures to reduce risk and in effectively allocating aid and resources during emergencies.
