In this next clip, we will focus on the tool that will be used in this tutorial to delineate water bodies over land surfaces, the Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI). Not to be confused with the NDWI, which is also sensitive to surface water, but fails to reliably differentiate between built-up structures and water bodies, this index is capable of separating both land cover classes with high accuracy.
