Medium-resolution (MR) spectro-radiometers measure sunlight or Earth thermal emission in many narrow spectral bands (multispectral) or a quasi‑continuous spectrum (hyperspectral), and convert it to calibrated radiances or reflectances from which geophysical variables (aerosols, trace gases, chlorophyll, land or ocean properties) are retrieved. They are passive sensors, meaning they don’t emit their own signal. Resolutions range between 0.5 and 5km.
