Enhancing Livestock Farming in Paraguay with Earth Observation
In collaboration with the World Bank, GMV, as part of the ESA GDA AID Agriculture Consortium, is implementing an Earth Observation (EO) service to improve livestock production in Paraguay.
Description
Livestock farming is vital to Paraguay’s economy and livelihoods, but to ensure sustainable growth, the sector must balance economic expansion with environmental conservation and climate resilience.
With the support of the World Bank team, GDA AID Agriculture is working with Federación de Cooperativas de Producción (FECOPROD) in Paraguay to improve productive decision-making in livestock farming through the coupled use of Earth Observation (EO) and local weather data. The EO information services will be intergrated into the digital infrastructure of FECOPROD, with a view to later exploring opportunities to jointly scale up the solutions developed, providing reliable and timely data for: Resource Management, Pasture Condition Assessment, Efficient Feed Management, and Climate Resilience and Adaptation.
The integration of Earth observation technologies into livestock farming represents a scalable solution for addressing environmental concerns, improving resource management, and enhancing the overall sustainability of the industry in Paraguay and elsewhere.
